What Does Trustified Test?

Trustified uses a multi-level blind-testing process for protein powders. The testing covers key parameters designed to determine whether what's inside the pack matches what's claimed on the label.

Level 1 - Macro Accuracy

The first step verifies the product's actual macronutrient content against its declared nutritional information.

This includes testing for:

• Protein

• Carbohydrates

• Fat

This helps establish whether the protein powder actually delivers the nutrition stated on its label.

Level 2 - Amino Spiking

A high protein number alone doesn't tell the complete story.

Trustified evaluates the amino acid profile to check for amino spiking, the practice of artificially increasing the apparent protein or nitrogen value of a product through added amino acids or other nitrogen-containing substances.

The amino acid profile helps verify the integrity and quality of the protein source.

Level 3 - Melamine Spiking

Protein products are tested for the presence of melamine, a nitrogen-rich compound that can falsely increase apparent protein readings.

Trustified's published protein reports specifically disclose the product's melamine-spiking status.

Level 4 - Heavy Metals

Products are screened for potentially harmful heavy-metal contamination, including:

Lead • Arsenic • Cadmium • Mercury

Measured values are compared against applicable limits to ensure the product meets the required testing parameters.

Level 5 - Aflatoxins

Trustified tests for Aflatoxins B1, B2, G1, G2 and M1.

Aflatoxins are naturally occurring toxins produced by certain moulds and can contaminate agricultural and food ingredients. Testing helps ensure their presence is either not detected or remains within the required limits.

Level 6 - Pesticides

The product is also screened for pesticide residues.

Trustified's published reports disclose whether pesticides were detected or were found below the laboratory's limit of quantification/detection.

Products are not collected directly from the manufacturer. Trustified purchases products anonymously without informing the company in advance and sends the sealed product to its testing partner.

If a product shows a significant failure at an earlier testing level, Trustified states that further testing may be stopped and the product can be listed under the FAIL category.

Only products meeting the expected testing parameters across the required levels are listed as PASS and can proceed towards Trustified Certification.
